Dental Crowns Reviews
"I want to punch myself in the face for not writing this review any sooner (but not too hard because I wouldn't want to jeopardize my teeth). I must have been on such a high after my dental implant, specifically the crown work that Dr.Wong did for me, that the review slipped my mind. First of all, let me start by saying that Dr.Wong and I go way back...to five years ago when I moved to the DFW area and he became my dentist. He instantly won me over after just the first appointment with his calm, NON-SALESY (it's a word) nature. I love that he didn't try to sell me teeth whitening, or fillings, or crown replacements "because the ones I have seem to be failing" which I've heard from other dentists in the past...he's the real deal, an honest dentist who really cares about his patients! Dr. Wong is so honest and trustworthy that only he was able to convince me, after my consult a year ago, that a dental implant would be my best option. He walked me through a few alternatives, told me the pros/cons to each, and told me that he would go with the dental implant if faced with the same circumstance. I'm so glad he encouraged me to move forward and introduced me to Dr. Chang who did the actual implant. They made quite the dynamic duo and I would recommend them to anyone. I will warn you, Dr. Wong has become so popular that he/his staff are often booked at least three months in advance. So if you're in the market for a new dentist, or this review just made you realize Dr. Wong is a better choice for you, make sure you call to make an appointment right away. I promise you won't regret the decision and your beautiful new smile as a result."- M.K. / Yelp / Dec 01, 2015
A crown may be wanted or needed for several different reasons. They may be placed to cover a decaying tooth to prevent it from chipping or it may hold hold together an already cracked tooth. Dental crowns may also cover a worn down or loose tooth. They can be a cover and strengthen a tooth with a lot of decay that will not be able to hold a tooth-colored filling, as part of a dental bridge, or to hide discolored or misshapen teeth. Crowns may be glued over your tooth or connected by an implant. The crown's material is chosen with consideration before it is being placed. Porcelain fused to metal (PFM) or metal are usually stronger, which makes them better suited for the less visible molars and pre-molars. Ceramic or porcelain crowns are often selected for the visible teeth and custom made to match the shape, size, and color of your teeth. In your consult, one of our dentists will explain your choices and help you choose the best dental crown for your budget and needs.
What To Expect
At your consult, your dentist will get dental impressions so your crown can be made to fit your tooth. In some cases, a temporary dental crown may be used to cover your tooth as your permanent crown is being crafted. As soon as your custom crown is made, the treatment area will be given a local numbing anesthetic. Stronger sedation techniques may be used to soothe any fears or anxieties. When the anesthesia has taken effect, your dentist will prep your tooth by cleaning away any decay, before lightly filing the enamel to create space for your dental crown so it fits snugly. Your dental crown can be either glued to your tooth or connected to an implant. Once set, your dentist can adjust the crown's fit so it is comfortable.
Unless sedation was used, you will be able to leave our office once the procedure is done and continue your daily activities. Drs. Wong and Bean or a member of their team will teach you how to care for your dental crown, including any foods that should be avoided and cleaning. At your yearly examinations at Stonebriar Dental, Drs. Wong and Bean will evaluate your dental crown and adjust it to keep it comfortable. They will tell you when your crown should be replaced; however, with good care, it may last for several years. If you notice any trouble with your crown (if it falls out or is loose), call our office immediately. Don't try to repair it or re-attach it because this may cause an infection or bad fit.
Based on your insurance coverage, a portion of your costs may be paid. After contacting your insurance carrier, we can calculate your remaining costs. At your consult, we will help you select the best crown material that suits your needs and budget. We can also talk about payment methods along with financing to help make your procedure affordable.
